There are many Baton Rouge things to do for fun and entertainment. It all depends on what you're in the mood for.
Baton Rouge things to do could include a trip to our state capitol building downtown. Recently, me and my son Tyler took a trip to see the Louisiana State Capitol building in downtown Baton Rouge. We had a fine morning on this hot summer day. It had been quite a while since I had been there and Tyler had never been. We took pictures on the steps of the capitol and inside the impressive foyer entrance. We also road the elevator 27 floors the top of the building to the observation deck. We got some great pictures overlooking downtown and the Mississippi River.
Here's Tyler on the observation deck of the capitol. He was squinting because the sun was in his eyes but he thought it was cool to be up so high, 27 floors. This is the largest state capitol in the United States.
Here's Tyler standing in front of the House of Representatives chamber to the right side of the first floor. I tried to explain to him about how laws were made but he said the classic, "I don't get it."
Here's Tyler in front of the first floor Huey Long exhibit. This is the location where Huey was assassinated. Many people have said that Huey could have well been president one day.
Below is a link of another nice trip we took to the Louisiana Old State Capitol Building downtown. It was a wonderful trip and I've got some good pictures on this page. Also, a new link to our recent trip to the New Orleans Aquarium. A link with the October '07 Denham Springs Pumpkin Patch page. Also, a link with our June '07 trip to the Bluebonnet Swamp and a July '07 trip to the USS Kidd page. Also, I've just added a slide show of the many photos found throughout this site. This page of my site is probably my favorite and I enjoy sharing some ideas of things to do in Baton Rouge.
Other Baton Rouge things to do could include a day in the sun at the popular Blue Bayou Water Park of the Interstate 10 at Highland Road. This huge water park is always busy and also has an amusement park with rides and a summer music concert series from various artists.
Baton Rouge of course has two good size shopping malls. There's the older Mall at Cortana at the corner of Florida Blvd. and Airline Highway. It has been a mainstay for Baton Rouge area shoppers for many years. More recently in Baton Rouge, the Mall of Louisiana was built at Bluebonnet Blvd. just of Interstate 10. It's very nice and has two levels, a large open food court area and a merry-go-round in the middle of the food court area that kids can ride for $2.00. Parents ride for free. Below is a recent picture of my kids Tyler and Haley riding with my brother, Todd helping watch Haley. You might notice that Tyler has his state capitol t-shirt on. There's just all sorts of things to do in Baton Rouge.
The city has plenty of motion picture theaters from which to choose. The newest is the Rave Theater of the Interstate 12 at O'Neal Lane. There's the CitiPlace Theater towards the middle of town of Corporate Blvd. There's Tinsletown Theater of Siegen Lane and Interstate 12. There's the smaller Grand Theater off Jones Creek Road at the Coursey Blvd. and George O'Neal Road intersection. All of these theaters offer the popular stadium seating feature that has become common for newer movie theaters. Also, there's the brand new Rave Theater right behind the Mall of Louisiana. Check out the movie times here.
