Back from the Beach

My family just got back from the beaches at Gulf Shores, Alabama. If you live in the Baton Rouge area, it's nice to have the ability to go to the beaches at Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. These beaches are quite nice and about 3 1/2 hours from Baton Rouge. We had a nice time, however, for the first time in my visits there, the wind was so strong that the red flags were out for our last two days. This means that there is no swimming in the Gulf due to the danger and much stronger waves. We made the best of it though and spent time at the pools and saw the new Shrek movie and a day of miniature golf as well. It was a nice family vacation and some good memories with my wife and kids.

Mother's Day at City Cafe

Saturday evening my wife, son and daughter made our way over to City Cafe off O'Neal Lane. We met my brother Todd who is now engaged and my mother for a Mother's Day dinner to honor her and my wife a dayearly for Mother's Day. Todd and I have been lucky to have a great mom who had to finish raising the two of us after our father died when I was 9 and he was 6 years old. I'm also to lucky to have my wife Beth to be such a good mother to our two children. We had a nice dinner. I got crawfish for probably the last time this season and Beth had a chicken sand which. Todd had a fillet steak, Mom had a bowl of shrimp pasta and the kids had their usual catfish baskets. It was a nice time. I'll post pics here later and at my website www.baton-rouge-guide.com

Relay for Life Cancer Walk

Saturday night we all went over to the Relay for Life rally at the state fairgrounds down Airline Highway. We had a pretty good time over at the Baton Rouge General tent. There were some fellas making a really outstanding batch of jambalaya along with some white beans. I didn't have any of the beans, but the jambalaya was great. My wife is an oncology nurse at the BR General so we always go to this as she pretty much has to do it as part of her job. I don't mind as it's for a good cause to raise money and awareness of cancer. It's also a chance to honor the survivors there as well as to remember those loved ones who have been lost to the disease. Check out my website for more on the Relay for Life along with pictures of the event at baton-rouge-guide.com
